The NWRHL is pleased to announce we have formed a partnership with the Brock Womenís Badgers. Margot Page, the head coach of the Badgers, has offered us the opportunity to participate in a womenís hockey camp during the month of August. The camp will consist of four 90-minute on ice sessions. The format will be 60 minutes of drills and skills followed by a 30-minute game of shinny to put your new skills to use. The camp will be held at the Seymour-Hannah quad pad arena. The group will be limited to 20 players per session and we will offer an opportunity to buy all the sessions or just one at a time if you canít commit to the entire program. Groups will be divided according to ability so that everyone has an opportunity to improve on their skills. The Badgers will be doing the coaching and we will try to have enough coaches to reduce the ratio of players to coaches to 4 or 5 to 1.
The NWRHL and Brock Badgers will be offering the sessions at a rate of $25/session (plus Active fee) if you sign up online and $30 cash if you prefer to pay at the rink. You are also welcome to buy all four sessions at a cost of $100 (plus Active fee) online or $110 cash at the rink. We will need a head count for each session so please sign up soon or email to let us know that you will be coming.
In addition to this program we will be making some changes to the Wednesday night league. We have acquired the 10 pm ice slot which means we will have all ten teams playing each week. We have also been able to get ice on Monday evenings at 9 and 10 pm that will allow us to run a Masters division of 4 teams. Masters players will have to be a minimum of 35 years of age as of December 31, 2017 to be eligible to play in this new league.
As with the regular league we will endeavour to place people on teams with their friends. It is suggested that you indicate what team you want to be on for the league and/or who you would like to play with. Returning players will be given priority for placement up until September 15th and then the league will be assigning players to teams based on roster availability.
Brock has also offered to run a skills and drills session during the season on Monday nights. We will be scheduling these practices as part of the Masters ice time but they will be open to Wednesday night players as well. The fee to cover these practices will be built into the registration fees for this yearís hockey. Again, they will be limited to the first 20 players to sign up for the ice time. The Brock Badgers will be running the practices with members of the team on the ice to serve as mentors and instructors.
Fees for this year will increase slightly to cover the cost of the extra ice, referees and timekeeperís fees.
League play will begin in October; the start date for masterís ice will be the last week of September.†

Presented to a player on the Brock University Womenís hockey team who is elected by her peers and coaches. The winner is someone who exhibits the all around sportsmanship, leadership and skill that Oonagh demonstrated as an original member of the Niagara Womenís Recreational Hockey League.
This years winner is Jensen Murphy a second year goaltender for the Badgers. Her peers describe her as a leader on and off the ice, someone whom they can count on to make the big play when needed as well as stepping up in the dressing room to rally the team. She works very hard on and off the ice and is always willing to take the new players on the team under her wing.
We will be presenting the Oonagh Hastie memorial bursary to Jensen at the Brock Badgers home game on Saturday February 4th .
A message from Jensen Murphy
I would just like to thank you for the Oonagh Hastie Bursary I received last night through the Brock Women's Hockey team. It means a lot to me to be recognized by my teammates and I am absolutely honoured to receive this in Oonagh's name.
If you could please pass this message on to the Hastie family, I would really appreciate it!
